Fangirl Fashion Files: Being YOU
I’ve always had a tough time choosing a style from the list that is typically provided in magazines. I’m not “Glam”, “Sporty”, “Boho”, “Classic”, “Trendy”, or any of those other generic styles. As it turns out, I am actually “Hipster Folk Princess”, a combination of a few different things, but one that is very me. It’s like how I just don’t fit into any of the Harry Potter houses. My friends try to shoehorn me into Hufflepuff, but that’s not who I am at all. It’s like in Divergent when you have to choose your faction. “No, I don’t,” I always say. “I am more than just one thing!”
Welcome to the first post in our Fangirl Fashion Files series. Here on My Fangirl Life, we really feel that it is important to be exactly who you want to be. This is something that should come into play in every facet of your life – from what you do for a living, to who you spend time with, to where you live and hang out, and all the way down to what you wear. Each of us has taken this to heart with regard to our wardrobes specifically over the past year or so, and we definitely wouldn’t go back.
It was a pretty long process to get where we are now, so I’d like to walk you through it in a separate post in the near future. In the meantime, I’ve written about this previously on my personal blog, Yukon Girl in the World, but I will be updating and reposting that article here.
After years of keeping things just because they were nice, because they might fit “one day”, or because I might want to wear them “some time”, I’ve given up on the over-inflated wardrobe of clothes I never wear.
Even further to that, I’ve given up on wearing things that don’t make me happy. I should feel good each and every day about what I am wearing. If I don’t feel well, a fun accessory with my outfit should give me a special little boost. If I have a bad day at work, I should be able to hold my head high because my clothes are empowering me to be exactly who I want to be. And I recommend this for all of you too. It’s amazing how good you feel when you’ve defined the version of you that you want the world to see – and when you aren’t afraid to show that side of yourself.
Kris, Justine, and I each have very distinct styles. As I’ve already mentioned, mine has been dubbed “Hipster Folk Princess”, while Kris’ is termed “Hipster Mermaid Grunge”, and Justine’s is “Elegant School Girl Classic”.
We’d like to use this series to walk you through each of our styles, inspirations, and outfits, so keep your eyes peeled in the near future for plenty of unapologetic fangirl fashion posts! Hopefully we can inspire you to identify exactly what you want, and help you to get there.
