About!

Fandom SymbolsWelcome to My Fangirl Life!

You have just entered a world of untold wonders…a place where anything can & will happen…where you can be whatever you want to be and love whatever you want to love. Because that’s what being a fangirl is all about, isn’t it? From the outside it’s all hysteria & obsession, but on the inside a fangirl (or fanboy…I don’t want to exclude any fanboys out there!) is just someone trying to be themselves. Sure we might like different things than the masses, sure some of those things are considered nerdy or uncool, and sure we tend to get a bit too involved in our passions, but in the end we are expressing ourselves in the truest way we know how.

Hello. My name is Kris and I am a fangirl.

The premise of this blog is a bit different from others you’ll find out there on the world wide web. My Fangirl Life is a geek lifestyle blog. “What is a geek lifestyle blog?” you ask. “Did you just make that category up?” Why yes I did. I personally find myself browsing blogs with two distinct focuses: nerdom news and home + beauty tips. Instead of sifting through post after post trying to find subjects that apply to me as a fangirl, wouldn’t it be incredibly convenient if I could find both of these topics in one place? Well now you can! Goodness I’m starting to sound like a commercial. Let’s simplify it down…

On My Fangirl Life I am going to give you updates, advice and entertainment pertaining to these two seemingly contradicting areas. There will be reviews, news and gossip from the geek culture community. There will be posts with recipes, product recommendations and style guidance to fit your lifestyle. Key Words: to fit your lifestyle as a fangirl or fanboy. Let’s spice up those reviews with some humor and the news with some commentary. Why not turn cooking into Kitchen Cosplay and figure out how to put a little Harry Potter into your home? How about we mix in a dose of D&D and Disney and call it a blog!

They say you don’t choose the fandom life, the fandom life chooses you…or more accurately:
The Fandom LifeOh tumblr…you are so good at expressing my feelings for me!
I’ve always been a bit of a nerd. As a kid I had an imagination that couldn’t be contained and loved anything that inspired it. I delighted in nothing more than playing with my “guys” (little plastic figurines of Disney & cartoon characters…like the kind you used to get in a Happy Meal) and watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Michelangelo was my favorite). As the years passed my nerdom interests grew wider: comic books, YA novels, supernatural tv shows and fantasy movies. In ninth grade I got 99% in a creative writing class where I based almost all of my projects off of Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. Fangirl was in my blood and as I grew older I became more confident with being me. Now I am a young professional with a Mechanical Engineering degree. I am stepping out into the world and testing the waters as a grown up. And nothing delights me more than playing with my guys (whether it’s in real life or my fandom boys on tumblr) and watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Michelangelo is still my favorite).

But my favorite development in the creation of My Fangirl Life was when it stopped just being about MY fangirl life. I have a personal blog for that (cue the self-promotion of My Pigeon-Toed Life). Instead I started collaborating with a collection of other awesome nerds to bring a higher quantity of high quality content. If you’re curious about who we are, everyone will be listed on a page linked in the top menu as their involvement becomes more frequent. I want this to be a place where the “My” applies to everyone. More writers mean more opinions, more viewpoints, and ultimately more fandoms. Hopefully the wider scope will allow each and every reader to look at this space and think “Wow, this really is about my life as a fangirl (or fanboy, of course).” Because the fandom community is nothing if not inclusive! We may go through the odd tough spot (with infighting and shipping wars) but in the end this is a safe space where you can love ANYTHING you want to love!

So welcome to My Fangirl Life, a site about my fangirl life and hopefully about yours!

Love & Luck,
Kris & The My Fangirl Life Team
